Winning across South Shropshire

The Liberal Democrats are neck and neck with the Conservatives in South Shropshire, after a series of spectacular by-election victories.

Most recently, Lib Dem Andrew Sherrington overturned a huge 600+ Conservative majority to win the Worfield by-election. The Conservatives had previously won the seat with 70% of the vote. Just weeks later, Lib Dem Colin Taylor overturned an 800+ Conservative majority to win the Alveley and Claverley by-election. The Lib Dem vote was up 36%, while the Tories plummeted by 33%.

These latest results follow the Lib Dem victory in Highley division a year earlier, when Mark Williams gained the seat with a 350 majority over the Conservatives.

The three by-election gains mean the Lib Dems are now neck and neck with the Conservatives in South Shropshire with ten councillors each.

These recent victories pave the way for Lib Dem former MP Matthew Green to mount a serious challenge to the Conservatives in South Shropshire at the next General Election.
