163 roads to be resurfaced or surface dressed

Lib Dem-run Shropshire Council will be resurfacing 92 stretches of road in the coming months, with a further 71 being surface dressed (sealed and strengthened). This is in addition to ongoing pothole repairs.

The 92 sites that are to be resurfaced (see list below) are located across the county and have been identified by experienced highways officers. The resurfacing work will be carried out over the next 12 months and dates will be added to the One Network interactive roadworks website once known.

Surface dressing seals roads to stop water entering and ice forming, which reduces the chance of potholes forming. Surface dressing also adds a bitumen binder with stone chippings, which strengthens the road surface and improves skid resistence. The whole process can extend the life of a road by up to 15 years.

David Vasmer, Shropshire Council’s Lib Dem Cabinet member for highways and environment, said: "Improving our roads and making them safer for all road users is one of our top priorities. Our annual resurfacing and surface dressing programmes are a really important part of this and represent a significant investment in the roads across the county.

“This year’s programmes to improve our roads will greatly improve more than 160 stretches of road across Shropshire, and help to prevent potholes and other problems occurring in the future.

“I’m sure the work will be welcomed by people who use these roads and I thank people for their patience and understanding while this important work is carried out.”
